How to redo a veil

Hello fellow hat lovers!

I spent some time yesterday renewing a hat I found in Duluth, MN this summer. When I saw it, I loved the shape. It's really unique! And I could tell it had a veil because there was still some netting sticking out from the brim. You can barely see some of it sticking straight up from the front brim. Here's what I bought:

So, to start, I took the fancy top off the hat itself. That's not so hard, but I had to remember how it fits on there so I could get it back on. Then, I measured the veiling, and stitched it in place so it wouldn't show under the fancy top.

Once I had the new veil in place, it was time to hand sew the band back on. This one was tricky. The band doesn't fit snugly to the whole hat, but bows out on the sides. It took a little patience, but here's the finished hat:

What's nice about this hat, is that with the funky flare at the back, if you don't like a veil in your face, you can also wear it with the veil back over the hat, like this:

Someone is going to a very happy lady when this hat goes up at Hotsie-Totsie.com! More hat ficing tricks to come...
